How to Start Interview Preparation?
“How do I prepare for an interview?”—this is a frequently asked question, whether you are a fresh graduate or a seasoned professional. But before diving into preparation, take a step back and ask yourself: What kind of impression do I want to leave on the hiring team?
Interviews are not limited to job applications; they can happen in the form of an elevator pitch or a networking conversation. That’s why preparation should start with creating opportunities for potential employers to discover you.

Tip 1: Identify Your Target Companies
Narrow down your focus to 3-5 companies within your industry or area of expertise. Research the industry, the company, and its ecosystem players—suppliers, customers, and competitors. Consider what value you can bring to the company and identify any gaps in your profile that may be preventing you from securing a position there.
Tip 2: Build Your Presence
Follow your target companies on LinkedIn and stay updated on job openings—it’s a bit like hunting, isn’t it? But beyond passively waiting for opportunities, actively position yourself in environments where your dream job might appear. Have you considered connecting with people in the company or industry to gain insider insights? Personal branding and networking can make you more visible to potential employers.
Tip 3: Tailor Your Application
When your dream job opens up, don’t rush to submit your resume in excitement. Instead, act fast but strategically. Try to connect with HR or the hiring manager to gain deeper insights about the role. Customize your resume by aligning it with keywords from the job description, keeping in mind that many companies use applicant tracking systems (ATS) to screen applications. To stand out, limit your key selling points to a maximum of three—while you may have extensive experience, prioritize the most relevant aspects for the role.
Job hunting is similar to dating—you need to be specific, focused, and clear about your target and why you’re the right fit. One of the most critical steps is capturing the attention of potential employers. Once they notice your profile, your chances of landing your dream job significantly increase.
By following these steps, you can set yourself up for success and make a lasting impression in your next interview.
